Quizing is all about joy of knowing and awareness. Cognicioun’17, the iconic busi-ness quiz conducted at Birla Institute of Management Technology’s Greater Noida campus on February 4, 2017, was very special and truly was about joy and know-ledge. Cognicioun is a national level annual quizzing event. The word Cognicioun is a Middle English and Spanish word which means metal capacity. The quiz has the distinction of being the only event at club and conduit level in which corporates participate in numbers to pursue their hobby. It is an open business quiz in which cross teams of corporates and Business schools can participate. Each team must have two members.
The 6th annual edition saw participation of more than eighty teams. Sixty-five teams from corporates and colleges competed in the quiz, whereas fifteen quizzing teams from BIMTECH participated. This shows the popularity of the event in the fraternity of quizzers. The event has gained tremendous respect and has become a diary event for seasoned quizzers. The quizmaster was Mr. Mitesh Agrawal, VP and CTO of Oracle India. He is a well known and respected quizmaster. The principal sponsor of the event was Hero Motocorp. KPMG extended its support as knowledge parter of the event. The event chief guest was Mr. Nitesh Jain who is an Associate Director at KPMG.
Some of the corporate teams who participated in the quiz were Indian Oil, RBI, SBI, NTPC, Sai Mitra Constructions, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki, P&G, Britannia, De-loitte, TCS, NTPC, Gati, JK Papers, Alomondz Brokers and Falcon Adventures.
Student teams from IIT Delhi, IIM Udaipur, IIM Rohtak, Lal Bahadur Sastri Institute of Management, JNU, IMI New Delhi, AIIMS, Ramjas College, St Stephens College, Aligarh Muslim University and ICWAI , etc., participated in the quiz.
There were two rounds in the quiz, 1stround was a preliminary one which was an elimination round. Thirty questions from business and industry were asked in this round. The prelim was high scoring with highest score being twenty-four. Only six teams were selected for the next round which was on the podium. Qualified teams for the podium round were AIIMS-ICAI , TCS-Sai Mitra Constructions, St. Stephens-Ramjas, Wipro, Godrej-RateGain and Deloitte-ISBF.
On the podium there were six rounds which were conducted on sequential buzzer. Again in this round the questions were related to business and industry. There was a special Cognicioun round in which teams were asked to choose an alphabet from the word COGNICIOUN and answer startedwith the chosen alphabet. The podium round saw intense competition among the participants though TCS-Sai Mitra gained an upper hand and maintained that till the end.But, there was fierce battle for the Ist runner ups spot between AIIMS-ICAI, Deloitte-ISBF and Ramjas –St. Stephens.
The winner of the Cognicioun’17 were Jayakanthan and B Naveen Kumar from TCS and Sai Mitra Constructions . The winner’s prize was Rs. 50,000. The 1st runner up were Ramjas-St. Stephens which were represented by Tushar Anand and Apratim Singh. The 1st runner up prize was Rs. 30,000. The 2nd runner up were Delloite-ISBF which were represented by Rohan Khanna & Aryapriya Ganguly.The 2st runner up prize was Rs. 20,000.
The prizes were given by the chief guest- Mr. Nitesh Jain, the quizmaster- Mr. Mitesh Agarwal, Deputy Director- Dr. Anupam Varma and QCB Mentor- Prof K.K.krishnan. Cognicioun being a knowledge driven event, helps tremendously in branding and helps BIMTECH in positioning itself as a laboratory of creative and innovative think-ing. The culmination of the grand event was the result of the untiring efforts of all the members of Quiz Cub of BIMTECH from first and second year as well as alumini QCB members, who toiled for three months and contacted a large number of corpo-rates as well as colleges around the country under the mentorship of Prof. K.K. Krishnan.
